OPENING SPEECHES

After the opening ceremony, each delegation selects an ambassador to make an opening speech to the General Assembly (opening speeches will also be made at the Security Council). Each delegation must choose their ambassador from the team of delegates from that country attending the various General Assembly Committees. Delegates attending the Security Council will make the opening speeches to that committee.

Opening speeches take about one minute to present. The purpose of the opening speech is to introduce your country and give a very brief account of your country’s perspective regarding the main theme for the conference and important issues to be discussed in relation to that theme.
